Pace wins Euro1080 HD box order
Set-top maker Pace Micro Technology has agreed a deal to supply high-definition (HD) receivers to HD broadcaster Euro1080.
Pace said it would be supplying its DS810 HD set-top box to Euro1080 as the broadcaster rolls out advanced HD services. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The DS810 utilises H.264 advanced video codecs and incorporates HDMI connectivity. It is both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compliant, which enables Euro1080's 200,000 customer base to receive both current and future HD signals. Conditional access is provided by Irdeto.
Sandy Barblett, European director at Pace, said: "HD in Europe is becoming a reality. All the drivers are coming together to provide viewers with the optimum TV experience."
Euro1080 CEO Gabriel Fehervari said: "Euro1080 has been broadcasting HD content since January 1, 2004, in MPEG-2. The signing of the contract with Pace Micro is a very important milestone for Euro1080 and HD in Europe in general.
"The availability on the market of HD set-top boxes, which are MPEG-4 compliant, will boost the roll-out of HD in Europe. We at Euro1080 are therefore very proud that we are able to team up with one of the most important developers of innovative set-top box solutions."
